Band XI Commercializes Small Business Innovation Research
WEST HARTFORD, CT. -- March 23, 2009 -- Band XI International, LLC is successfully commercializing the results of their US Army Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grants to build the Mobile Embedded Component Suite (MECS), an embedded Java(TM) foundation using Eclipse Equinox as a runtime. Band XI is applying the core component frameworks to address prognostics and diagnostics in condition based maintenance of vehicle fleets using the J1939 and MIL-STD-1553 bus networks. The same software provides the basis for a variety of military and industrial applications for sensor and actuator management of heavy equipment, mining, construction, and health management systems.
Band XI International has developed a collection of components and frameworks using the Eclipse Equinox implementation of OSGi as the runtime platform for embedded systems. The components address the following embedded application needs:
- Bitmap oriented user interface framework
- Pluggable off board messaging framework
- Device connection framework
- Remote software provisioning
- Automotive bus interfaces (CAN/J1939)
- Military bus interfaces (MIL STD 1553)
- Deployment of prognostic and diagnostic algorithms to vehicles
Band XI has successfully applied these research results to a variety of applications recenly, extending beyond the military applications originally envisioned to commercial applications, such as small fleet management, mining equipment, and some preliminary investigation in the field of health care management. Details of these applications will be forthcoming in 2009, but are currently restricted under confidentiality agreements.
Band XI International offers nearly a decade of experience in developing embedded Java applications that rely on a loosely coupled, highly cohesive component model. Band XI engineers have deep experience working with similar proprietary components and frameworks and know their comparative strengths and weaknesses. Band XI is a member of the Eclipse Foundation and the Open Services Gateway Initiative (OSGi).
