John Cunningham
Founder & Managing Partner
Mr. Cunningham has two decades of experience engineering software solutions in a broad range of industries. Having begun his career in New York City as a consultant at Accenture (formerly Andersen Consulting) and Computer Sciences Corporation, he moved on to a line management position at Citigroup (formerly Travelers Insurance). In the mid 1990’s, he joined Object Technology International, a small expert software development firm that was acquired by IBM. For over a decade, Mr. Cunningham served in both technical and business project leadership roles within IBM. In 2005, his desire to construct an agile environment for bright, passionate problem solvers led him to start Band XI International. Mr. Cunningham earned his BS from Columbia University, MS from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and MBA from the University of Connecticut.
Brett Hackleman
Founder & Partner
Mr. Hackleman has extensive experience leading development projects for embedded systems, including telematics devices, and specializes in short- and long-range wireless communications. Some of his other skills include low-level hardware/software design and remote software upgrade mechanisms. Mr. Hackleman holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering from the North Carolina State University.
Patrick Dempsey
Partner
Mr. Dempsey specializes in hardware/software integration, and embedded platform development. His early exploits included FPGA programming, fine pitch solder rework, and PLC programming. More recently he has been working with OSGi with an emphasis on Eclipse Tooling, Telematics and RFID spaces. Mr. Dempsey obtained Bachelor’s Degrees in both Electrical and Computer Engineering, as well as, a Master Degree in Computer Engineering from North Carolina State University.
Paul VanderLei

Mr. Vanderlei has more than 20 years of software engineering experience using a variety of technologies applied to many domains. He is well known in the Eclipse community for his innovative, yet straightforward, engineering solutions to complex problems. He coauthors an upcoming book on the proper construction of embedded Java applications using the OSGi software architecture. Mr. Vanderlei has more than 10 years of experience developing embedded Java applications and user interfaces for the automotive and medical industry as a founding member of the IBM Embedded Java Enablement Team. Before joining Band XI International, he had been providing enablement services for the Rational Team Concert (Jazz) product lines as a Senior Software Architect for IBM Rational Systems.
James Branigan
Partner
Mr. Branigan has over ten years of professional experience, with the first two-thirds spent in the embedded domain, working on systems such as automotive plant floor control, RFID systems, in-vehicle infotainment, fleet management, and check processing. Before joining Band XI, Mr. Branigan spent the previous three years developing state of the art software development tools as a member of the IBM Rational Jazz server team. Mr. Branigan has extensive experience using OSGi based technology to meet client needs on both embedded platforms and hosted application servers. He was a panel member at EclipseCon 2008 on the topic of ‘Extension Points vs. Services’ and presented the novel solution that was used in the Jazz project to use OSGi services and Eclipse extension points in harmony. Mr. Branigan holds a Master of Science degree in Computer Science from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and two Bachelor of Science degrees in Computer Engineering and Electrical Engineering from North Carolina State University.
